Adventures and campaigns can be all over the place with their intended character level and tier - what’s your favorite tier to start out at?

For extended campaigns I prefer level 1 as it allows the ability to flesh out the characters story and personality more organically. For campaigns with with 3-6 sessions I am a tier 2 fan.

Definitely prefer starting at 1 to give time to develop characters. Especially if it’s a new class for the players, time to learn the basics before adding more complexity seems to play better. If it is a short adventure, though, I agree starting a little higher is preferred as you may not get to see the differentiation of roles well at too low levels. There’s also such difference in leveling across types, with some starting really strong and hitting plateau, while others need a few levels to show value. So it’s nice to get to see that progression.
