Graphics & Design Wanted

Here’s the deal: I am not a graphic artist or designer, but I’ve decided to do this silly forum thing that is painfully in need of of some of those things

So, I guess, like, PM me or reply to this thread and we’ll talk through some ideas and details around what this site needs and the process toward accomplishing those

Update: I reached out to someone about this and they expressed an interest in it, but it turns out that we all have these things called “lives” and they often get in the way of doing things we intend to do

Still interested in and needing to advance the state of this, so if you happen to also be interested I’d love to talk with you

I’ve got experience working in graphic and web design. I can definitely talk about what you need help with and see what we can do.

I’m down!

Right now all the graphics are default Discourse
First things site needs are branding graphics

This is a text I prospectively sent about it

no preference on colors, but I’ll shy away from any OH major sports team colors
Here’s the dimensions from the settings page:
logo (top left, header): 120 px height, aspect ratio 3:1 or greater
small logo: 120px square
large icon: 512px or larger square
favicon: 32px square
Apple: 180px square

Continuing this in DMs

Jason went and made me define a new site badge just so that I could award it in gratitude for work on the site branding

This site uses the B612 font family because a) I like it, b) it’s designed to be highly legible, and c) it’s also open source

What I didn’t like about it was that it’s surprisingly difficult to use custom fonts with the Discourse software. There’s a side-step to that difficulty: use Google Fonts and import the asset from them.

Here’s the trouble: Google is really good at tracking and surveillance - and I really, really don’t dig that. Embracing that “self help” concept of standing up a social media alternative that doesn’t snoop on its users was a core reason why I brought this whole thing about!

So I knew I had to find a way to ditch the Google embed, and I finally managed it! Hooray! Now both my extra-paranoid web browser and my Privacy Badger extension agree: there’s no trackers here!
