Group Storytelling Game - For the Queen

Got the chance to play an incredibly cool story-prompt game recently - and with some tremendously cool people at that!

The game is For the Queen and it features a deck of instructions and prompts. Players take turns, around the table, first reading the rules and constructing the scenario, then responding to story prompts about “The Queen” - a fictional entity selected from several options.

Generally, each of the players assumes a role of their own definition among the Queen’s court. The interesting bit is that the story-prompts each player draws from the deck - and the player’s responses - are the drivers of the story and define the player’s roles.

It’s a gloriously straightforward game of “answer the question”, but our 30-minute session saw the four players splitting into rival factions, identifying an heir apparent among us, and revealing that our Queen was an entity not entirely of this world.

I picked up a deck of the cards for it and look forward to playing many, many times more. The deck is sizable, the prompts incredibly varied, and the tone of the shared story is entirely set by the player’s contributions.

If you get a chance, check it out.
